5 Of The Best Albums So Far This Year

Posted at June 8th, 2019 | by Shank | in Entertainment, Featured, Hip-Hop/Rap, Music

Though 2019 is still far from over, there’s been no shortage of amazing albums to listen to. Below, you can find inspiration from the 5 picks that influenced the crowd and struck all the right chords.
  1. Thank U, Next by Ariana Grande –

After coming out with ‘sweetener‘ in August 2019, February saw Ariana release her highly anticipated followup and it did not disappoint. Inspired by her recent relationships and their sour endings, the lyrical themes focus on self-love, healing and provocativeness. “Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored” and “Thank u Next” are the standout tracks in this album where she embraces her maturity, looking back on her past with gentleness and wit through synthy pop beats and swirling rhythms.
  2. When I Get Home by Solange –

Solange has found her creative peak with this album as her attempts to expand her sound with grace and individuality have merged wonderfully well in this 19-track stunner. The soul and drive of black music is entrenched in a delightfully modern yet uniquely flavored array of musicmaking, which creates a fantastic new world inspired by jazz-funk but being totally liberated from its conventions. “Almeda” is just one of the numbers which deserve applause as the irregularities and chaos of the ambience she creates acts as a multi layered base to her soothing voice. Image result for When I Get Home by Solange
  1. When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? by Billie Eilish –

18 year old Billie has taken over the scene with this full length blockbuster debut, which came through after she had already made quite a name for herself through singles and pulsating live shows. Her low key, almost whispered vocal style goes eerily well with the bass heavy beats that are snazzy enough to blow the roof of arenas as well as your earphones. Wonderfully dark and matter-of-fact, she is fresh and eager to take the crown of the next biggest pop star and this album is only the beginning.

  2. Free Spirit by Khalid –

Khalid comes to terms with his new found superstardom and speaks extensively about his struggles with seeking help in this fresh new R&B flavored record which also carries a soothing 80’s rock influence on certain numbers. The album’s songs hold their own and are enhanced by his feel-good voice and slick emotional lyrics confirming his status as Gen Z’s voice.

  3. Rap or Go to the League by 2 Chainz –

This album finds 2 Chainz stripping down the excesses and focus on his story as one of rap’s true hustlers, with powerful but groovy tracks that elevate the mundane to extra snazzy. Pharrell Williams is one of the producers for this one and 2 Chainz’s lyrical prowess is unfurled in all its glory surrounded by lush and aggressive beats layered to perfection.
