10 Underground Artists to look out for at Sunburn Goa

Posted at December 19th, 2015 | by Sarangh | in Interviews

India’s premier electronic dance music festival has been Sunburn Goa ever since its inception back in 2007. The organisers have always ensured that they bring down the biggest and most enthralling artists from around the world to this festival and elevate the crowd’s experience to the peak. With names like Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Armin van Buuren, Axwell, Afrojack and many others having already played at this unparalleled festival, this year’s edition of Sunburn Goa proves to be nothing less than its earlier editions.

Sunburn Goa 2015 has only gotten even bigger and even better with its own camping sites now, courtesy Stayzilla and not to mention, with headliners like Martin Garrix, David Guetta, KSHMR, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Kygo tagging along with other big names in the electronic dance music circuit, we don’t know how much more better could this get! Well, that’s about the well recognised DJs in the industry. But Sunburn Goa is not just about that, is it? This is also one of the festivals which encourages and brings out fresh talent from around the world. These underground artists have proven to be worth taking the stage for themselves as they have portrayed this by their routine shows. We just didn’t want to concentrate on the big names in the explosive line-up and which is why we’ve jotted down these 10 underground artists who seem promising and are sure to give a performance that stuns the crowd at Sunburn Goa 2015. Here it is:

SEQU3L

Several Indian artists have made our country proud by having performing in stages like Tomorrowland and also by signing with a couple of popular labels. Yet another man who has achieved quite a bit in the industry in this Pune-based DJ. Nakul Ambilkar, better known by his stage name SEQU3L is definitely one of the artists you ought to look out for at this year’s edition of Sunburn. Although he is not that commercialized in the country, with his eccentric and unique style of music, this man has proved himself quite well and is surely a true performer. Check out his track ‘We Evolve’ which was supported by several international artists including Markus Schulz:

Juliet Sikora

This electrifying artist from Germany has two lethal arrows in her quiver, Music and Beats. Juliet Sikora, a techno artist, one of the co-founders of Kittball Records along with Tube & Berger (who will also be playing this year), is visiting Sunburn Goa this year to give you the ultimate adrenaline rush with his thumping music. We don’t say she ain’t popular, she’s just not received the applaud she deserves, yet. Having released numerous tracks consisting a touch of her own style, in a short span of time, Juliet Sikora is one of the artists to look out for on the Techno stage at Goa this year.

DIATONIK

Well, we noticed that Indian artists are fast rising in the electronic dance music and a lot of them have already made their mark in the electronic dance music scene. This man named Animesh aka Diatonik has been one of the names in the underground house music scene in India. One of India’s most touring DJs since 2010, he has been one busy man performing in gigs around the world including cities around Europe and also in some of the renowned Asian clubs. This year has a phenomenal one for him as he went on to perform as a guest DJ at Ibiza Global Radio which is undoubtedly an astounding achievement. The list doesn’t end there. He’s also performed at the best clubs of Berlin with several such enumerations under his name. Check out his set at the OZORA festival 2015:

Bullzeye

A techno project by the Mumbai boy Siddhanth Kapoor, Bullzeye is surely one of artists to look out for on the techno stage at this year’s Sunburn Goa. Ever since he began DJing back in 1999 when he was a mere 16 year old boy, he has been dominating several clubs in the city of Mumbai. Clubs like Blue Frog and Aurus and many other popular clubs have appreciated the music every single time this man takes control of the decks with his energetic underground techno music.

Folic State

Born and brought up in Mumbai, Karan Desai has constantly been a busy man, dedicating most of his time in the studios producing fresh tracks and quality tracks at that. The oracular Mumbai producer was signed to one of India’s top labels SoupHerb back in 2013 when he was rising at a steady pace in the industry and he sure hasn’t rested since then. An artist driven by sheer perseverance, abnegated from the usual sounds of electronic dance music is Folic State and he is beyond doubt one of the underground techno artists to watch out for this year. Here are few links to some of his tracks from his EPs:

Southwild

Jay, Psy-Trance DJ/Producer from the Black Forest, deep south of Germany who now transits between the EU and Toronto, Canada, started this project called SouthWild in 2010, also joining the established UK record label WildThings Record in the same year. This man dedicated over 15 years of his life producing profound Psy-trance tracks and has never failed to deliver in his live performances for each and every one of his sets around the globe are forever filled with uplifting and positive energy. Having found his own unique style of ‘Twilight’ Psy-Trance music over the years, Jay certainly delivers this dark and groovy music with a spark of insanity. Here’s one of his Psy-Trance songs that caught the ears of the crowd:

Cid Inc.

Henri Hurtig, better known as CID INC. brings to electronic dance music a fusion of contemporary music with cutting edge sounds and this is a mixture that you seldom come across. A stirred DJ who currently plays in both Finland and Sweden, when asked for his thoughts on his beginnings in electronic dance music says, “It was an incredibly inspiring time for me, the passion for hearing something unique and fresh got me totally hooked and I couldn’t wait to test out the newest tracks in my upcoming gigs”. With several beautiful tracks by his name, CID INC has already found a place in the hearts of many fans and one can only tell that with his intricate music knowledge exploiting it to producer extremely exhilarating tracks filled with nuances that comes out from sheer fortitude, his talent is unequivocally an unique one which is in the path of accomplishing several laurels.

Justin Mylo

Ever since his name was listed in the line-ups for massive events like Don’t Let Daddy Know and Multiply Ibiza, Justin Mylo’s career seems promising than ever. With several tracks under his name, Justin Mylo has been one of those guys who knows what the crowd wants to hear and he plays just that. After achieving several acclaims and having played at some thrilling venues, we were all stoked when we heard that he has worked on a collaboration with Martin Garrix on “Bouncy Bob”. Now that is something that counts, doesn’t it? For him, the connection between DJing and Producing is what makes his music complete. Well, we undeniably comply to that and which is why we look forward to listening to his new productions at this year’s Sunburn Festival in Goa.

She is well renowned for her eccentric style of groovy dark progressive music which lures the crowd to her shows around the world. Currently signed to Electric Power Pole Records from Australia and Sangoma Records from Germany, Back To Mars is also a part of two female collectives namely Magnetika and Psysisters. An artist who is well capable of playing Psy-trance music suitable for when there is light and also transiting it to a powerful night Psy-trance music, she is indeed all geared to fire on all guns at Sunburn Goa 2015.

HIZKIA

Originally from Bandung and moved to Jakarta, Indonesia later on, Hizkia has been DJing prominently from 1998 in various clubs throughout the nation, giving the crowd a taste of house and progressive music combined with his own style. Having shared the stage with several international acts viz-a-viz Junkie XL, Steve Lawler, Sander Kleinenberg and many others, Hizkia comes to India this year and his performance at Sunburn Goa 2015 this year positively seems promising and enthralling.
