10 songs we 'Hate to Love'

Posted at March 2nd, 2015 | by PrernaSangal | in Nightlife

You can choose to ignore them now, but you’d have to agree these songs will take you down that bittersweet memory lane. Forgetting them is out of question because they rekindle the memory of the best phase of our lives. First love, first heartbreak, birthday parties with cold drinks, potato chips and Vengaboys. They don’t fit the definition of stereotypical ‘cool’ music so to speak now, but they still are the ones whose lyrics all ‘90 kids know by heart, till date!

Let’s list a few out and decide for ourselves.

 1. We like to party: Vengaboys

They had something to tell us and they surely had news for us. They shalala’ed all the way into our lives and drilled themselves into our minds. Our birthday parties weren’t a success until there were musical chairs happening with some Vengaboys playing.

2.Barbie Girl: Aqua

So this is obviously a cliché choice but then again it’s a song which just had to make this list. What seemed to be a harmless cute song then, I see it in a different light now. Revisit the lyrics and you’ll know what I mean! “Kiss me here, touch me there, hanky panky!”

3. Words: Boyzone

All the lovers in the house! Wasn’t this one on everyone’s dedication list? Dint it just speak your mind? Ooh the butterflies! Teenage romance!

4. In the end/Numb : Linkin Park

Yes, this one was for the rebels and the cool kids. Dressed in black, all goth and head banging. You dint even have to try too hard to like their music. It was cool and we all loved them.

5. Summer of 69/ Everything I do: Bryan Adams

Lovers found respite in his music. He just spoke to them, to us. Summer of 69’ was probably the last song request to the DJ and who amongst us hasn’t screamed ‘those were the best days of our lives’ in unison along with everyone that mattered.

6. Waiting for tonight: J. Lo

Twisting and turning emotions were strong. J. Lo was hot then, she’s hotter now and we sure as hell had the hots for this song. It gave our restless hearts some relief. Yes, hearts!

7. The ketchup song(Asereje): Las Ketchup

I was on a road trip with a friend recently and this song started to play on the radio. We ignored for a bit but couldn’t help ourselves as the chorus started to play. We sang it out loud and danced to it too. You remember the steps too right? Hands on top of each other and their horizontal jerk, twirl your hands to the top of your head, wobbly legs, wobbly legs.

8. Quit Playin’ Games: Backstreet Boys

Guys reply to being ‘friend-zoned’. Yes, this was it. But, you should have known from the start. The impact Backstreet Boys had on us. They made everybody, rock their body!

9. Mambo No. 5: Lou Bega

This one’s for all the playas! Who doesn’t want a little Monica in their lives?

10. Oops I did it again: Britney Spears

Songs from a time was Britney was genuinely cool and not a little cuckoo. Heartbroken and wanted to show you dint care. Yea, all of us have been there, done that.

This isn’t close to being an exhaustive list and we know the list is a rather never ending one.  So you can add more to this list in your head because you say it best when you say nothing at all.
