Trap don MojoJojo has just dropped the first single from his upcoming 3 track EP RUDRA. The latest offering is a hard-hitting ‘Desi Bass’ track called ‘Shankar,’ and has the potential to be an absolute chart-topper. The powerful track incorporates deep chants of ‘Har Har Shankar’, along with MojoJojo‘s signature bass-heavy undercurrent. He has blended samples recorded in the holy town of Hardiwar, India, with hard hitting, high-octane, contemporary electronic music.
Talking about the inspiration behind the EP, MojoJojo explains, “Rudra is a concept EP which is essentially a tribute to the different forms of Lord Shiva. The inspiration for this album lies in my childhood and all the mythology I was exposed to as a young boy. My grandmother used to tell me tales from the Ramayan, the Mahabharat etc and I remember those fascinating me to no end. I grew up in a house where Havans, Pujas and Aartis were a part of the daily ritual. Now, as an artist, although not religious, I feel deeply moved by chanting in any form. It speaks to the child within and transports me to a place of wonder and fantasy. Hence, even in my first album, ‘Shots Fired’, I have sampled a lot of chanting in tracks like Thar Bomb, Yogic Jogging and Nepal. With Shankar and subsequently, Rudra, I’m taking it to the next level. I had traveled to Haridwar early last year to sample the evening aarti and some other ceremonies along the ghats, which I have used to create this EP.”
Accompanying the electrifying track SHANKAR is a music video, also shot in Haridwar. It’s a kitschy montage of the city, featuring the cultural elements it’s most popular for with some new age video editing that we’re totally loving.
